What northwise. is
A growing set of free New Zealand mortgage calculators. Two do the heavy lifting: the refix calculator shows homeowners what refixing at today's rate does to their repayments before the bank's letter arrives, and the first-home calculator tells buyers honestly how far they are from their first home — deposit, KiwiSaver, borrowing power, and what's actually holding them back.
Around them sits a full toolbox — repayments, the true cost of owning a home, offset and extra-repayment savings, break fees, fix-or-float, rent-vs-buy, a budget map and more — plus My runway, a deposit tracker you can keep.
Everything runs entirely in your browser. You get real numbers with no account and nothing captured. If you want those numbers checked properly, you can ask for a callback — and that's the only point anything leaves your device.
What northwise. is not
We are not a lender, not a financial advice provider, and not a lead aggregator. We don't sell mortgages, we don't take commissions from banks, and we never give you personalised financial advice. northwise. is a coordinating layer: we own the calculators and the consent record; a licensed adviser owns the regulated advice and the relationship with you.
Why it's free for you
Consumers never pay us — it's stated everywhere because it's true. Mortgage advisers are paid by the lender when a loan settles. When you ask for a callback, we pass your enquiry to one adviser; if you go ahead, the bank pays them, and they pay us a fee on settlement. You're never in that chain. There is no catch, no upsell, and no cost to you at any point.
How your enquiry is handled
- →One adviser, not five. Your enquiry is exclusive to a single licensed adviser covering your region. It's never resold, re-run, or handed to a call centre.
- →With your explicit consent. Nothing is shared until you tick a box that says so. We keep a timestamped record of exactly what you agreed to — you can ask to see it, correct it, or delete it any time.
- →Optionally verified, never gated. You can confirm your figures read-only through open banking (Akahu) if you want a priority callback. It's always optional — an incentive, never a requirement.
- →We check back. A few weeks after your callback we follow up directly to see how it went. It keeps advisers honest and helps us make the tools better.
The line we don't cross
The tools give you factual information and calculations — repayments, positions, ranges, eligibility hints — and never a recommendation about what you personally should do. Those judgment calls are exactly what a licensed adviser is for, and we're careful to say so. Figures are indicative: real rates, repayments, and bank assessments will differ, and scheme rules change.
